Common errors during MOT tests are failures and issues with as followed: lighting, suspension, brakes, tyres and much more. Below are the errors and how to fix them:

Lighting

  • One of the most popular reasons vehicles fail their MOT tests is because of faulty lighting. A single blown bulb is enough to result in failure. Issues include, flickering, dimming and incorrect beam alignment. It is important to have these issues sorted and to do this try your best to replace faulty bulbs before the MOT.

Suspension

  • Common faults with suspensions are broken springs and leaks in hydraulic components. To fix these two issues you could replace springs on both sides and look for oil leaks by regularly inspecting them.

Brakes

  • Faults with brakes are from worn brake pads and the handbrake not holding. The way to fix this is to replace pads when you need to and adjust the cables or replace the components to the handbrake if it doesn't hold after adjusting.

Tyres

  • The faults with tyres during an MOT test are low tread depth and pavement/road damage. To prevent these is to replace tyres below the UK legal limit of 1.6mm and to check the pressure weekly from potholes, pavements and roads.

If you follow the above steps, you should be all good not to fail your next MOT test.
