There are many different brands of mobility scooter battery and wheelchair batteries. At The FastFit Centre, we offer six brands to help cater for people buying on a budget to people looking for the best of the best. All of our mobility batteries are either sealed lead acid or gel. To choose the correct battery for your application you need to check the capacity (Ah) of the battery already on the scooter or wheelchair. Some mobility scooters/wheelchairs have room for larger batteries than the manufacturer has fitted which will give a greater journey range and longer time in between recharging. Or you can simply bring your scooter to us and we can deal with this for you! We also offer a collection and delivery service. A mobility scooter battery is classed by its Ah value in the following manner. 7 AH Mobility scooter batteries, 12Ah Mobility Batteries, 12 Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries, 18-22 Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries, 24-26Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries, 31-34 Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries, 40-44Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries, 50Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries, 70Ah Mobility Scooter Batteries. These are the main values which differentiate the physical size of mobility scooter batteries. All of these sizes can be found on our website manufactured by Yuasa, Numax, Exide & Bosch. Most Mobility scooters and wheelchairs are fitted with two 12 Volt batteries wired in series to create a 24 Volt system. These two batteries are usually charged using an automatic 24V battery charger. There are many types of mobility scooter charger depending on battery size and manufacturers unique plug system. The most popular is the three pin (3-pin) plug which inserts directly into the scooters battery system. If this is not the case a normal 24V automatic charger with crocodile clips can be used.

Types of scooter battery that we stock
All mobility scooter batteries are rechargeable, though they'll probably need replacing every 12 to 18 months. You charge them using an ordinary electric socket and they'll last longer if you.

There are 3 main types of scooter battery. Check with the manufacturer or supplier if you're unsure which type your scooter uses.

Lead-acid batteries are cheaper, lighter and last longer, but need the most maintenance. They contain a mixture of water and electrolyte which must be regularly checked and topped up. Take care not to spill the liquid as it can burn you.

Gel cell batteries are more expensive and last for a shorter time than lead-acid batteries. They can't be spilt, need no maintenance, and can be taken on planes.

AGM batteries use newer technology and are the most expensive. They don't spill or require maintenance and are also more shock-resistant. They can also be taken on planes.

A battery measure on the scooter's control panel will show how much power is left - this is usually a colour-coded dial or set of lights, or a picture on the digital display. Battery range
Safety tip: It's wise to treat manufacturers' claims about the range of your scooter battery with caution. Hills, the weather, your weight, heavy shopping and the age of the batteries will all affect how far your scooter can actually go. To avoid being stranded, plan on travelling about half the manufacturer's stated range in between charges.
