Adblue pumps play a crucial role in the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system of modern diesel vehicles, including commercial vans like those used by Virgin Media. This system helps reduce harmful emissions by converting nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. However, like any mechanical component, Adblue pumps can encounter issues that may lead to malfunctions. Here are some common ways Adblue pumps can go wrong

  • Mechanical Failure: Over time, Adblue pumps can experience mechanical wear and tear, leading to issues such as motor failure, damaged bearings, or worn-out seals. These mechanical failures can disrupt the proper functioning of the pump, resulting in reduced Adblue delivery or complete pump failure.

  • Electrical Problems: Adblue pumps are often equipped with electrical components such as motors, sensors, and wiring harnesses. Electrical faults, such as short circuits, damaged connectors, or faulty sensors, can interfere with the pump's operation. These issues may trigger warning lights on the vehicle's dashboard and result in the SCR system not functioning correctly.

  • Contamination: Adblue pumps and associated components are susceptible to contamination from impurities or foreign objects present in the Adblue fluid itself. Contaminants can clog filters, damage pump internals, or cause blockages in the delivery lines, leading to reduced Adblue flow or pump failure.

  • Software or Calibration Issues: Adblue pumps are often integrated with the vehicle's onboard computer system, which controls various aspects of the SCR system's operation. Software glitches, calibration errors, or communication issues between the pump and the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU) can result in improper pump operation or erroneous fault codes being generated.

  • Environmental Factors: Extreme temperatures, exposure to moisture, or harsh operating conditions can affect the performance and lifespan of Adblue pumps. For example, freezing temperatures may cause Adblue fluid to crystallise, leading to blockages in the pump or delivery system. Similarly, prolonged exposure to high temperatures can accelerate component degradation and reduce pump efficiency.

Addressing these issues requires thorough diagnostics and expert repair techniques, as demonstrated in our recent job with the Virgin Media van. By identifying the root cause of the problem and implementing timely repairs or replacements, we ensure that our clients can rely on their vehicles to meet emissions standards and operate efficiently. At Fastlane Autocare, we understand the intricacies of Adblue systems and are equipped to handle a wide range of Adblue pump issues with precision and expertise. We can replace amble pumps on any vehicle including fleet vehicles, commercial vehicles and vans.
